Andrew Cole is a composer, performer, and sound artist. He has written contemporary acoustic and electro-acoustic music, collaborated with film makers, directors, artists, dancers, and taken part in a number of interactive instillations. Mr. Cole received a BA in philosophy and music at Goucher college, and MM's in both Computer Music and Composition at Peabody Conservatory. He is the recipient of several awards including the Otto Ortman award, the Robert Hall Lewis award, a computer music graduate assistantship at the Peabody Conservatory, and First Place in the 2006 Prix d' Ete competition. In 2001 he received a Strategic Planning Grant from Goucher College for the Perpendicular Dialogues multimedia exhibition. The dance and music elements of the exhibition were eventually taken to the Edinborough Dance Festival. Mr. Cole has had pieces played at the Smithsonian's Yesterday's Tomorrow Concert, the 2005 Prix d' Ete recital, the 2005 & 2006 Electronic Music Midwest Festival, and the Electric Pacific 2005: Music for Digital Media Concert. Later this year his compositions will be played at the Florida Electronic Music Festival and the Bowling Green Listen Chamber Concert. In March of 2007 the Johns Hopkins Symphony Orchestra premiered his newest piece, /Maya Beckons; I Shall Embrace Her/ for Orchestra and Electronics. Andrew is the Digital Audio Specialist at the Johns Hopkins Digital Media Center and adjunct faculty at Loyola College where teaches electronic music.
